June 18, 2008 - Public Meeting - Preliminary Conceptual Design

The City of Toronto’s Parks, Forestry & Recreation Division, Sibelius Square Working Group and Councillor Vaughan invite you to attend a public meeting to introduce alternative design concepts prepared by the project’s design team, PMA Landscape Architects. This design research will lead to a new design for Jean Sibelius Square.  We want to hear your ideas and perspectives as the design work for this park develops.

The community meeting will be held at Walmer Road Baptist Church from 7-9pm.  The meeting space is in the Lower Hall, 188 Lowther Road.

We were happy to see 35 designers, representing various design teams, gather in the square on Tuesday for a mandatory site meeting.  The meeting was coordinated by Parks, Forestry and Recreation.  The RFP proposal deadline is at the end of the month.  A design consultant should be selected in the following two weeks.

After two years of discussion, and input from hundreds in the neighbourhood, a preliminary draft of the Design Brief for Sibelius Square has been completed.

October 17, 2007

Our neighbourhood will be testing a pilot project for extending community participation in the Request for Proposals (RFP) process, used to select a design professional.  The pilot is the result of discussions over the last year with the councillor’s office and Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division. It provides for formal community input through the working group, which will have standing on the Evaluation Committee for the RFP. If all goes well at city hall, the RFP for Sibelius Square should be ready for bidders by the year’s end.

In keeping with Parks practice, there will also be ongoing consultation with the larger community through community meetings.
